On the 4th of July, both the weather and the concession foods were steamy as Mississippi’s Governor Haley Barbour and First Lady, Marsha Barbour were in attendance for Independence Day festivities. Looking sharp in a Braves jersey, Mrs. Barbour threw out the ceremonial first pitch in the Braves’ game against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Marsha Barbour is the spokeswoman for the Let’s Go Walkin’ Mississippi campaign. To encourage Mississippians to get out and walk, the first 3,000 fans through the gates of Trustmark Park received free pedometers, compliments of Let’s Go Walkin’ Mississippi, a campaign sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi. "The leadership of the First Lady has been instrumental in the success of Let's Go Walkin' Mississippi. It's appropriate that Mrs. Barbour was onhand tonight to throw the ceremonial first pitch." |

"The people of Mississippi have really responded to her, and we're proud that Mrs. Barbour has joined us in transforming the state's health and wellness culture." said Wade Overstreet of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi. Mrs. Barbour also kicked off the Independence Day Celebrations held at Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Braves. Following a terrific winning game by the Braves, Trustmark Park was lit by a fantastic fireworks display. |
