GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR APPOINTS MARTIN TO STATE TAX COMMISSION

 

(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour has appointed Marcus J. Martin, of Laurel, to the State Tax Commission for a six-year term. The commission administers and collects over 75 separate tax levies including sales tax, use tax, individual and corporate income tax, etc. It also administers alcoholic beverage laws and supervises the registration of motor vehicles statewide.

 

“Marcus will do an exceptional job as commissioner, working to ensure a high quality of supervision and regulation in this important area. I am delighted that he has agreed to serve in this capacity,” Governor Barbour said.

 

Martin has been a CPA with Holt and Associates, PA for over 17 years. He also worked as a CPA with Horne CPA group and prior to that he was an auditor with the Mississippi State Department of Audit. Martin is a former President of the southeast chapter of the Mississippi Society of CPAs. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University in Professional Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.

 

Martin resides in Laurel with his wife Joanna and their two children Matthew and Micah.
