GOVERNOR REAPPOINTS MCNAIR TO BOARD OF HEALTH

 

(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour has reappointed Dr. Alfred E. McNair, Jr., of Gautier, to the State Board of Health, which governs the Mississippi Department of Health by providing policy direction for the agency.

 

“I’m pleased Dr. McNair has accepted this reappointment to the Board of Health, which plays an important role in ensuring Mississippians are provided with the health services they need. I am confident that Dr. McNair will continue to be an outstanding member on this board,” Governor Barbour said.

 

Dr. McNair has been a physician for 28 years. He is a member of the Mississippi Coast Physicians, the Association of African-American Gastroenterologists, and the American Gastroenterology Association. Within his community, Dr. McNair is a member of the Mississippi Centers for Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities and the United Way for Jackson and George Counties. In 2006, Dr. McNair was selected Physician of the Year by the Mississippi Medical and Surgical Society and was honored for his extensive efforts to provide patients with medicinal services following Hurricane Katrina.

 

A summa cum laude graduate of Tougaloo College, Dr. McNair holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the institution. He earned a doctor of medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his medicinal fellowship at Stanford University.
