GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR ANNOUNCES AWARD OF SUPPLEMENTAL KATRINA GRANTS
FUNDING TO HELP ENFORCE NEW BUILDING CODES ON GULF COAST
(Jackson, Mississippi) — Governor Haley Barbour today announced the award of more than $4 million in Katrina Supplemental Public Facilities Code Enforcement funds for communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. These grants will be used to expedite the rebuilding process by enabling cities to hire additional code enforcement officers and building inspectors to ensure that coastal structures are built in accordance with newly-adopted building codes.
“These communities have demonstrated a firm commitment to address the pressing needs of economic and residential development, and I commend them for dedication to build stronger, safer structures and for helping to improve the quality of life of our Gulf Coast residents,” Governor Barbour said.
The additional Katrina funding, approved by the Mississippi Development Authority, will aid cities in Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, and Pearl River Counties. Recipients include:

The Supplemental Katrina Public Facilities Code Enforcement funds total $4,049,098 million.
