GOVERNOR BARBOUR REAPPOINTS NORD TO HUMANITIES COUNCIL
(JACKSON, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour has reappointed Dix B. Nord, of Gulfport, to the Mississippi Humanities Council, which provides public programs in traditional liberal arts disciplines to serve nonprofit groups in Mississippi.
“I’m delighted Dix has accepted to continue her service to the state on the Humanities Council. She’s been an excellent member and I look forward to her continued good works in this capacity,” Governor Barbour said.
For 25 years, Nord has been self-employed, most recently as operator of the Chimneys Restaurant, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. However, Nord is currently in the planning phase of rebuilding the restaurant. She is a member of the Gulfport Main Street Downtown Arts Festival committee and the Gulfport Jones Park Revitalization committee. In 2005, Nord received the Gulfport Downtown Business Association award for Historic Restoration for the 100-year-old home renovated for the Chimneys Restaurant.
A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Nord holds a bachelor’s degree from the institution. She and her husband, Peter, have two children, Sophie and Watson.
