GOVERNOR BARBOUR SEEKS BEST PRACTICE ENERGY IDEAS

Governor Haley Barbour announced today he is seeking one- to two-page proposals for preliminary project ideas through the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) to increase energy efficiency and conservation, reduce energy costs for consumers, businesses and government, create Mississippi jobs and help transform the state’s economy.

With the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Mississippi is allocated funding through the U.S. Department of Energy to administer the State Energy Program (SEP) and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. SEP funds projects to improve commercial and industrial buildings. EECBG provides sub-grants to counties and cities for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions. Proposals should be related to one of the two programs and the eligible activities that have been outlined for each program.

Detailed information and project stipulations for SEP and EECBG funds are located online at http://stimulus.mississippi.org.

Proposals are due to MDA by Friday, April 24, 2009. Proposals and ideas will be used to develop projects that strengthen and expand our efforts at energy efficiency, renewable energy, and job creation and retention in Mississippi. Individuals, businesses, organizations and governmental entities must submit a hard copy of proposals to 6th Floor Receptionist, 501 North West Street, Woolfolk State Office Building, Jackson, MS. Proposals must be received not later than 5:00 p.m., April 24, 2009. For more information, contact Gayle Sims or Terrence Spears at 601.359.6600 or 800.222.8311.
