GOVERNOR BARBOUR ANNOUNCES NEW MISSISSIPPI ENERGY POLICY INSTITUTE
Group to examine ways abundant, affordable energy can aid economic development

Jackson, Mississippi - Governor Haley Barbour announced the creation of the Mississippi Energy Policy Institute today to promote policies supporting long-term economic growth for the state through reliable and affordable energy.

Mississippi Energy Policy Institute will promote a long-term coherent strategy for developing energy resources in the State of Mississippi. The institute is a Momentum Mississippi initiative. Governor Barbour was joined by former Ambassador John Palmer, Jackson State University President Dr. Ronald Mason and Steve Renfroe, government liaison for Chevron Corp.

“We want companies to see Mississippi not only as a place with an outstanding workforce but as a location with affordable and reliable energy to grow a business,” Governor Haley Barbour said. “The Energy Policy Institute also will provide a platform for our research universities to excel in this area of study.”

Momentum Mississippi is engaging a broad-based coalition from different energy sectors to join the institute. The institute will be made up of industry organizations, companies and colleges and universities.
