GOVERNOR BARBOUR ORDERS SPECIAL ELECTION FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEY IN 21ST CIRCUIT COURT DISTRICT

Governor Haley Barbour today set a Nov. 2 special election date for the District Attorney vacancy in the 21st Circuit Court District. The 21st Circuit Court District includes Holmes, Humphreys and Yazoo counties.

The office became open when longtime District Attorney James Powell retired Wednesday. Assistant District Attorney Steven Waldrup was appointed to serve on an interim basis.

The qualifying deadline for the election is Sept. 3. If a run-off is necessary, it will be held on Nov. 23.
