GOVERNOR BARBOUR’S JUDICIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEARCHING TO FILL CIRCUIT COURT VACANCY

Governor Haley Barbour’s Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee is conducting a search to replace Circuit Court Judge Robert G. Evans of the 13th District. Judge Evans died Tuesday.

Evans, who lived in Raleigh, served as Circuit Judge since 1991. The 13th Circuit Court District includes Covington, Jasper, Simpson and Smith counties.

“Judge Evans faithfully served the people of the 13th District for almost 20 years,” Governor Barbour said. “His extensive legal knowledge and dedication to public service will be remembered. His family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Evans was on leave from the position while undergoing medical treatment. The Mississippi Supreme Court on July 1 appointed retired Circuit Judge Frank G. Vollor of Vicksburg to serve during Evans’ absence. Vollor will continue to serve temporarily until Governor Barbour makes his appointment.

The Governor’s Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee will review nominees in accordance with Executive Order 914 and make recommendations on a replacement. The 31-member committee includes a chairman and 10 attorneys from each of the state’s Supreme Court Districts.

Anyone interested in applying should send 12 copies of their resume and a writing sample to Ed Brunini Jr., Chairman of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee, at P.O. Box 119, Jackson, MS 39205. The deadline for submitting applications is Aug. 4. Anyone interested in recommending prospective candidates should send their letters of recommendation to Mr. Brunini at the same address.
