A Proclamation WHEREAS, thousands of men and women serving in the Armed Forces from Mississippi have been mobilized and are deployed to serve our country abroad as part of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”; and WHEREAS, thousands more men and women serving in the Armed Forces from Mississippi are protecting our home front; and WHEREAS, these noble Mississippians represent our state and serve our country at all times and in all seasons, particularly in the Christmas season, when our thoughts and prayers are with their families at home; and WHEREAS, these brave men and women have always been true leaders in Mississippi, standing ready to assist our nation in times of need; and WHEREAS, their dedicated service to our country is vital to our continued success as a nation, and provides a shining example for our younger citizens to follow; and WHEREAS, we are proud of these soldiers and their service, and understand that it is because of their bravery and selfless sacrifice that we are able to enjoy the freedoms that make us Mississippians and Americans; and WHEREAS, during this holiday season, when so many are protecting America both at home and abroad, we as Mississippians stand together in prayer to wish each and every Mississippian in the Armed Forces a Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Haley Barbour, Governor of the State of Mississippi, hereby proclaim December 23rd, 2004, as A
DAY OF PRAYER FOR MISSISSIPPIANS SERVING in the State of Mississippi, and encourage my fellow Mississippians to join with me in honoring these dedicated men and women, as well as their families, this Christmas.
