A Proclamation WHEREAS, heart disease is the number one killer of women both in Mississippi and across the nation; and WHEREAS, Mississippi women have the highest rate of death from heart disease in the nation; and WHEREAS, educating women about their risk factors for heart disease and about lifestyle changes for heart health can save lives; and WHEREAS, Baptist Health Systems, the Mississippi Hospital Association, the Mississippi State Medical Association, the Mississippi Nurses Association, the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Mississippi Affiliate of the American Heart Association have developed a partnership to educate Mississippi women about heart disease through the Mississippi Heart Truth campaign; and WHEREAS, the Mississippi Heart Truth partners will work to teach women in Mississippi to identify risk factors and help them understand steps to reduce heart disease: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Haley Barbour, Governor of the State of Mississippi, hereby proclaim the year two thousand and four, as A Year of Awareness for Women’s Heart Health in the State of Mississippi.
